My Annotated Bibliography

I consume a lot of media (Don’t we all!). I find that the media that I consume, whether digital, print, video or audio, is essential in constructing my understanding of the world, + my research practice.

I’m a journal article hoarder; especially in the last few years, I’ve started assembling those articles, books + book chapters, videos, talks and films which I find to be essential. This is an ever-expanding list, one that I hope to never stop adding to, but hopefully it can give you some insight into what I like, what I find to be important, and how I view the world.

First, here are the 21 movies which I think are essential for understanding movies, and the world. They range from films I simply enjoy, like Twilight (which might be the most entertaining movie of all time), to documentaries like The Act of Killing, which uses the medium of film to unpack the minds of members of former Indonesian death squads. They’re all worth a watch, and I’d love to know what you think.

My formal annotated bibliography can be found here! It’s a collection of readings, movies, and books which I’ve read in my classes that I thought warranted more thought than what I was able to give them during a busy semester. This is a working document; one that will change as I find new resources I consider valuable, essential, or important. I’m particularly curious to hear what others think of these same readings & resources. Were they equally as moving? If not, why? How do you agree or disagree with my analysis? Are there other resources that discuss the same topic more succinctly and critically? Please let me know.
